XSdk Debugging

Alas, the debugging support is the worst lack of the current XSdk release: there is none!

The reason is that the debugging support of the Symbian SDK is so closely linked to the MSVC and Windows, that it is utterly unportable. We therefore have to prepare our own, brand new debugging support, in two stages:

first, a gdb stub for the Epoc machines, to allow remote debugging;
then perhaps even making a general and portable true emulator (not a port to one particular operating system, like the Symbian "emulator"!!!), based on the HAL-level services.

We are endeavoring to do both, but it is an indecent heap of work (and without any real support from Symbian at that--we have even offered them the whole XSdk, but in vain!!!). Thus, it will take some time before a useable debugging support is available.

Meantime, check the XLog service , described in the Foundation Types and Constants document. Although it cannot be compared to a good debugger, it can offer nice services anyway. Besides, here we can promise some improvements (like a TCP/IP remote logging or some primitive feedback) quite soon.
